The 2018 Miss Juneteenth Scholarship pageant

The 2018 Miss Juneteenth Scholarship pageant, was led by Pageant Director Tanisha Barnett, and empowered by Huston-Tillotson University. The pageant  benefits the Greater East Austin Youth Association.

Attendees celebrated with a special three-part ceremony.

Beginning with the Miss Juneteenth Pageant, the audience witnessed a fun filled production presenting the 2018 Miss Juneteenth Scholarship pageant contestants. Centered around the theme, “Year of Formation. The  show focused on accepting inner strength, welcoming the power of sisterhood, unity, and embracing the pride of Greater East Austin as participants celebrated their true royalty together.

 

Immediately following the pageant, participants enjoyed the Queen’s Mixer where everyone was officially introduced to the 2018 Royal Court. This was the time for the Queen and her court to unwind while meeting and mingling with guests. Participants enjoyed food, great music, photo opps and more.

 

For the Royal Finale, the GEAYA Juneteenth Parade was a way to support the girls as they celebrated with the entire community for one of the oldest Juneteenth celebrations.

 

Goals of the 2018 Miss Juneteenth Austin Scholarship Pageant:

  1. Create Educational Opportunities for Black Girls
  2. Educate the Community About Juneteenth & G. E. A. Y. A.
  3. Empower and Teach Sisterhood & Unity
  4. Educate Contestants and Attendees about African History
  5. Fundraise for One of The First Black Owned Non-Profits in Austin, The Greater East Austin Youth Association

 

GEAYA Miss Juneteenth Austin Scholarship Pageant is a nonprofit organization, that makes it our business to instill the best lessons and qualities in our young ladies of the future! It’s more than just a crown to us!!

 

 

Pageant Tiers

Miss Juneteenth Austin– High School

Jr Miss Juneteenth Austin– Middle School

Little Miss Juneteenth Austin– Elementary School (6-11 years old)

Miss Social Butterfly– (All categories)

 

The Greater East Austin Youth Association, a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit, volunteer organization, provides organized and structured sports activities for the economically disadvantaged youth year-round. Through their involvement, these children gain a strong sense of values and teamwork G.E.A.Y.A. provides a safe and fun environment, while allowing participation in a competitive space.
