WHO: Austin Justice Coalition

WHEN: Saturday, April 27, 2019 – 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

WHERE: Huston-Tillotson University, King-Seabrook Chapel

If an effort to continue to add to the narrative of boys and men of color, the Austin Justice Coalition is happy to announce our first-ever Black Boy Joy, a showcase, featuring local talent from across Central Texas.

“If you listen to what the mainstream media says about black boys and men you would think we are THUGS who are hyper masculine, so I want this event to showcase that we too have softer, vulnerable sides to us that can be expressed through dance, and song etc…” – Chas Moore, Executive Director

Through the Alliance for Boys and Men of Color Catalyst Fund at Community Partners, a national fund established to build, develop, and invest in local coalitions across the nation, Austin, Texas joined the movement through the Austin Justice Coalition to advance justice and build opportunity for boys and men of color, their families, and communities.

As the Austin Justice Coalition continues to focus on policy on the local and state level, we know that it is integral to our culture to provide a creative outlet young boys and men of color. There are not enough opportunities to allow men of color to perform in unique ways.

The winners of our Art & Essay contest for young men of color grades 3 – 12 will be announced at this event as well. More information about the Art and Essay contest can be found: here .

Our Facebook event is here.

“This event is a way for black youth and adults to find the black boy joy within themselves. We want to continue the narrative that black men and boys are creative, meaningful, and wonderful.” – Gaubrielle Pritchard, AJC Board Member/ show organizer

Boys and Men of Color Initiative

This summer, the Alliance for Boys and Men of Color awarded $20,000 each to 15 organizations, including the Austin Justice Coalition (AJC).

Through the Catalyst Fund, the Alliance is investing in continued policy and systems changes that engage and invest in grassroots leaders working at the intersection of race and gender justice, while advocating for state policy that improves outcomes for boys and young men of color. We are thankful that Austin Justice Coalition can join in the movement and will be using this investment over the next 9 months.

As the Austin Justice Coalition continues to focus on policy on the local and state level, we know that it is integral to our culture to provide a creative outlet young boys and men of color.
