Austin Black Business Journal Top Ten Black Millennials & Young Professionals

Austin Black Business Journal announced the names of its 2019 TOP Ten Young Professional honorees. These inspiring young leaders will be celebrated at a reception in their honor Saturday, November 23, 2019, 6p.m. at J.W. Marriott, 110 E 2nd St, Austin, TX 78701

Presented annually, the TOP Ten Young Professionals recognizes ten millennial & young professional leaders in Central Texas who have achieved professional excellence and are actively paving the way to success for others.

More than one-in-three American workers (35%) are Millennials, making them the largest generation in the U.S. labor force, according to a Pew Research Center.

“Millennials and young professionals are changing the landscape of American businesses. They are modeling and seeking to emulate a more diverse and inclusive culture, more so than in any previous generation”, said Black Business Journal Publisher, Anita C Roberts. “Each of our Top Ten Young Professional honorees are bright leaders who fight the status quo on a daily basis and are committed to challenge, motivate and inspire others. We can learn so much from them.”

The power of youth is often overlooked and undervalued, but is necessary to a sustainable and worthwhile society. Honoree and Pflugerville Councilman Rudolph Metayer said, “the younger generation brings a fresh set of eyes and viewpoints to issues that often have become sterile because of the same rhetoric or debate. The jadedness that we often see as we get older is replaced with an energy and vibrancy of the idea that “anything is possible.”

Councilman Metayer went on to say, “it’s critical to include young leaders in the debates to solve the problems of today, because they can truly help make the destiny of tomorrow bright for everyone, no matter their background.”

Honorees are listed in alphabetical order as follows:

  • Courtney Bailey | Leadership Austin
  • Terri Broussard | American Heart Association
  • Ryan Coaxum | Guaranty Bank & Trust
  • Naji H Kelley | Blnded Media
  • Rudolph “Rudy” Metayer | City of Pflugerville
  • Terry P Mitchell | The Austin Socialite
