Introducing The Best Of Black Austin 2021 Contest!
If you live in the Austin, Texas metro you’ve probably seen or heard about it by now. Ads are plastered across the internet & social media, and plenty of chatter among local business owners.
We’re excited to share some details with you about the 2021 Best of Black Austin contest! Austin Black Business Journal & Community News Magazine created the Top Ten series a couple years ago to highlight the accomplishments of notable Black professionals in the Austin metro area. This year Anita C Roberts, Editor in Chief wanted to celebrate the accomplishments of some of our everyday heroes.
“This contest is a celebration of local business. Our purpose is to provide an open, unbiased, and fully-transparent contest to recognize the best businesses, organizations, and people that live, work, and serve in the Austin metro area: which includes Round Rock; Cedar Park; San Marcos; Georgetown; Pflugerville; Hutto; Buda; Kyle; Leander; Bastrop; areas. Over the next several weeks, Austin Black Business Journal readers, Black Austin and the local diverse metro community are invited to get involved.
Here are the key elements of the contest:
Austin Black Business Journal & Community News Magazine will invite our audience of more than 50,000 to nominate their favorite Black businesses in nearly 70 categories. See our full category list here. Nominations begin September 1, 2021 and run through September 30th. Businesses can be nominated multiple times and in multiple categories, so we suggest nominating your favorite business to make sure they’re in all the right categories.

One of the coolest things about this contest is that every business that gets nominated moves on to voting, instead of just allowing two or three companies to compete. The voting period will begin on October 1 and run through October 29. Each voter can cast votes in different categories each day of the voting period– and all you have to do is click ‘Vote’ since we’re not mining voter contact information (voting is monitored by IP address).
Austin Black Business Journal & Community News Magazine will utilize the influence of our online magazine, 18,000 + Black Austin Facebook Group, and more than 50,000 Made Media Group and Austin Black Business Journal social media following to encourage the community to get involved, and we’re anticipating more more than 30,000 votes based on the results in our other markets.
Full transparency is one of our favorite parts about this contest– the voting will be monitored and tallied at the end of the contest by local business owners. This means you can rest easy knowing the winners weren’t selected because they were our clients or our favorite niece or nephew.
At the conclusion of this contest, all winners and runners up in each category will be published and recognized in a beautiful, 8 X 11 high-gloss magazine. Magazine ad space is available for purchase for any business regardless of if they win a category or not, but Gold and Silver winners will be featured in their winning category at no charge.
We’ll be dropping 5,000 copies of this magazine throughout the community, available for free in high-traffic areas and winner locations.
There is no cost for you to participate or win. In fact, many businesses in our other markets have won their categories just by rallying their tribe every day to encourage voting. Grab our free ‘nominate and vote for us’ materials and get started now.
